Marlene Costa

Marlene Costa, 5th Grade Math Teacher, has taught English, English as a second language, reading, and social studies at middle schools in Austin, TX, and San Francisco. Marlene values creating safe learning environments where clear expectations, structure, and consistent follow through abound. She writes: “I’m at my best when facilitating classroom centers, group projects, literature circles, lab experiments, research papers, and any other endeavor where the student is empowered to be creative, think critically, and guide their own learning.” Most recently, Marlene has been at the Berkeley Forest School where she guided children and their parents in nature, offering opportunities to explore local habitats and to challenge themselves. Marlene has a BA in art history from CAL and a MA in media studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
