Loa Ortiz
7th Grade Math Teacher
Loa Ortiz, 7th Grade Math Teacher, has been an educator for over 25 years. An engineer in her past life, Loa quickly realized that her true calling was working with young people during the transformative rollercoaster that is middle school. She began her career at the Lawrence Hall of Science in 2001, going on to teach middle school math, science and English in New York City, Berkeley, and Oakland. She studied civil and environmental engineering as an undergrad at Cal and science education in graduate school at Teachers College. When she’s not working, Loa can be found biking pretty much anywhere, swimming in the Bay and in the pool, going on near and faraway adventures with friends and family, and cooking and eating all kinds of delicious things.
