Observing Indigenous Peoples Day
The Prospect Sierra community and our two spacious campuses exist on the territory of xučyun (Huichin), the stolen land of the Chochenyo-speaking Ohlone people. Today we acknowledge Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to pause and honor Indigenous histories that are often suppressed or forgotten, along with the presence and work of Indigenous people today.
Planting and maintaining a native garden outside of their TK classroom is one way our youngest students learn about local Indigenous plants and practices and give back to the land that takes care of them. The space has become a hub for observation, reflection, and conversation about what it means to be stewards of this beautiful land that we occupy.
