Middle Schoolers Generate Wind Power at KidWind!

InstagramUncategorized February 7, 2025

🌬️ Our students made an amazing showing at the NorCal @KidWind_Project turbine-building competition, held at @calmaritime in Vallejo! In the middle school division, our 6th graders earned both 1st and 3rd place, proving their skills even against high school teams! 🚀

Teams worked under pressure to optimize their turbines before testing them in the wind tunnel 🌪️, while also connecting with students from across Northern California, touring the Training Ship Golden Bear 🚢, and experiencing fine dining in a college cafeteria.

A huge shoutout to our fearless engineers and their fantastic colab teacher and coach, David Gould! 👏👏

The wind turbine designs were part of our 6th grade colab unit, where students explore how electricity is created by turning a generator—by making turbine blades spin! 🌍 Students experiment with blade shapes, sizes, materials, angles, and more to create the most efficient turbine possible. 💡

In after-school colab classes, David works closely with motivated students to refine their designs, build, and test their turbines, leading up to the KidWind challenge. 💪
