Kicking Off Hispanic Heritage Month with Cumbia!

🇨🇴🪇 Grammy award winning Colombian cumbia and gaita group @losgaiterosdesanjacintoficial kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with an unforgettable performance at our middle school last week!

Since the 1950s, this multi-generational ensemble has been representing Colombia’s deepest, heaviest cumbia: the traditional gaita drum ensembles of the Caribbean coast. Their dance-inducing synthesis of flute and drums is the story of how two cultures blended their musical traditions — the tambor rhythms of the African slave trade met the gaita, a wind instrument of the Cuna, Kogui, and Zenue native peoples of the northern coast of Colombia.
