8th Grade Scientists Study the Coastal Forest

InstagramNews March 30, 2023

The Coastal Forests unit focuses on one of the important ecosystems we find here in Northern California. 8th grade scientists study tree and animal species and the relationships between them. They also learn about abiotic (nonliving factors) and Indigenous Californian practices.

Our science teacher Jesse challenged students to integrate all of these elements into a fun game. Students either modeled their game on one they enjoy (like Sorry or Monopoly), or came up with an entirely unique framework.

Students worked in teams to design the game and collect the scientific information to include. After spending about a week building the games, it was time to give them a spin in class. We love the creativity at play here!
