Celebrating Innovation at Our Annual Winter Study
Welcome to our Winter Study, where elementary students from all grades embarked on a journey of creativity, wonder, and innovation, inspired by the book What Will You Be? by @yamilesmendez.
Classroom teachers, specialists, and students collaborated to create vibrant dances, songs, and artworks—all centered around our school’s core value of innovation. At PS, innovation is a mindset that shapes how we think, learn, and engage. It helps us clarify our intentions, take thoughtful action, and be responsive stewards of our communities and the planet.
Our students dug into important topics that not only reflect their originality but also help shape a more sustainable and inclusive future:
🌽 3rd Graders explored the Three Sisters—a powerful Indigenous agricultural practice—and asked: How can we draw on this ancient wisdom to innovate for the future?
🏠 1st Graders tackled the issue of housing insecurity by building model homes with affordable, sustainable materials. They also wrote beautiful poems reflecting what “home” means to them.
🌱 TK students expanded their knowledge of native plants, connecting with nature in new and meaningful ways.
✨ 2nd Graders interviewed every child at Prospect Sierra to learn what makes them unique and celebrated the diversity within our community.
🦄 Kindergarteners asked themselves “¿qué serás?” through song, art, and Spanish language immersion.
🎶 4th Graders reflected on their own identities and led younger students through movements and songs that celebrate individuality and unity.
A huge thank you to Matt and Kelly, our amazing music and drama teachers, for directing the performance and bringing our students’ reflections to life on stage. And a heartfelt shoutout to the incredible faculty of Tapscott for their dedication in crafting curriculum that empowered our students to see themselves as innovators, using their voices to transform their ideas into action.
