8th Graders Host Upcycled Carnival!

InstagramNews April 26, 2024

The Upcycled Carnival returned as part of our Earth Week celebrations! In science, the process of creating games begins with 8th graders collecting both trash and recyclables. They form groups and let the materials inspire; one group looked at a lampshade and thought it resembled a nuclear power plant.

Each group chooses an issue and does research into the environmental challenges, as well as solutions at the consumer, community, and citizen level. They design a sign on upcycled cardboard and make a game out of all upcycled materials. On Carnival day, they share about their issue and the younger students play the games. Tickets won lead to drawings for prizes, all of which are gently used toys collected from 8th graders. Sustainability is rewarding AND fun!
