8th Graders Explore Natural Selection in Comic Project
Hammerhead sharks. Capybaras. Narwhals. How did these fascinating species come to be?
Throughout the fall, students explore biological evolution in 8th grade science. The second half of this unit focuses on how individual species change through the process of natural selection. After learning about five factors involved in this process (variation, inheritance, selection, time, and adaptation), the 8th graders pick a species and an interesting adaptation that helps the plant or animal survive in its habitat.
Students then tell the story of how this adaptation evolved using creative combinations of images and text – the Natural Selection Comic Project!
