3rd Graders at Coyote Hills Regional Park

InstagramNews October 17, 2025

3rd glade classes ventured to Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont for their very first study trip of the school year. Students spent a fun and informative morning making connections to our Ohlone curriculum. Our grounding question for this trip was, “Where can you see Ohlone culture and ways of life at Coyote Hills?” Students did indeed see culture in language, plants and their uses, baskets, ruwways (Ohlone homes made of willow and tule), hunting tools, obsidian, tule plants, and the marsh around Coyote Hills. Our knowledgeable naturalists guided students through an informative program learning about plants like saltgrass which pulls salt out of the water, and southern cattail which grows in marshes and can be food for moose, elk, and many birds. Students also had the chance to test their throwing skills by trying to get a “spear” through a moving hoop, which is a traditional Ohlone game. It was a fantastic experience! 🐾

Thank you to the wonderful park staff that led the program as well as our 3rd grade teachers and parent chaperones! 🐺
