Robotics Summer Camp
Learn in small groups how to build and program robots with the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 system. Each week ends with a fun robot competition! You’ll learn how to:
- Build a sturdy robot frame and base
- Use gear ratios to create speed and torque
- Incorporate motors and attachments to lift, grab, and launch
- Program robotic movement and sensors
Each day will be filled with fun activities that inspire and stimulate curiosity about robotics and STEM. This camp can be a place to start or build on what you already know, and give you more practice with team building, collaboration, robot construction, and programming. It is designed to prepare campers for robotics competition in middle and high school. Come join the fun!

The camp is part of Prospect Sierra’s summer camp program. Jenny Miller, MSW, will be leading the camp. She is a Prospect Sierra alum parent, and coached FIRST Lego League for two years. For the past two years, Jenny has been the Team Administrator for the Saint Mary’s FIRST Tech Challenge Team.
The Saint Mary’s High School Robotics Team will lead interactive lessons with the campers, preparing them for the competition at the end of the week. Each of the team members has competed in FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challenge for a total of five years. For the past two years, the team has competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge, winning three Qualifying Tournaments and two awards for robot design. Each year, they advanced to the NorCal Regional Championship.
