Funding Priorities

It is through philanthropy that we strengthen our connections at Prospect Sierra – building support among all who love and cherish this school and who want to ensure its sustainability for years to come. Like independent schools across the nation, Prospect Sierra depends on fundraising as a critical component of its operating budget There are a variety of opportunities to partner with us.

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund helps to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a Prospect Sierra education. It provides critical support to all aspects of the student experience. Each year, every member of our community is asked to make a contribution to the Annual Fund. This generous, community-wide, year over year support makes it possible for us to foster a socio-economically diverse community through flexible tuition, hire and retain outstanding teachers, and offer comprehensive fine and performing arts, sports, and social-emotional learning programs which allow our students to emerge with the courage to be great people, not just great students. Every Annual Fund gift – from $25 to $25,000 – is valued and impactful.

Spring Event

The spring event is a longstanding fundraising tradition where the community comes together to celebrate and raise vital funds for flexible tuition and other important all-school initiatives which support our people and programs at Prospect Sierra. Families can participate by attending this year’s Walkathon, donating or purchasing auction items, volunteering, and/or sponsoring the event. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, get involved in the community, and have fun!

Count Me In Parties

This is a fun, community building fundraising program with unique events hosted by members of the community. Ticket revenue directly supports Prospect Sierra programs and furthers our goal of an inclusive and equitable community. Host a party or join a party that’s happening. Past parties have included Zumba, food and wine tasting, poker parties, cooking parties, family campouts, pool parties, baking extravaganza, babysitting boot camp, and more. They can be kid friendly, adults-only, or both!

Major Gifts

A robust major gifts program allows independent schools to move forward significant strategic initiatives outside of a capital campaign. Major gifts are donor directed, larger scale gifts in support of transformative programming and big ideas; they are made in addition to an Annual Fund gift.

A strong endowment provides long-term financial stability for Prospect Sierra. While gifts to the Annual Fund are put to use the following fiscal year, endowment gifts are held in perpetuity, with earnings used each year for strategic initiatives. The school’s first endowment fund, the Leo Gaspardone Scholarship Endowment Fund, was established in 1997 to honor our retiring head of school. This fund was created specifically to build a robust source of funding for tuition assistance. In the fall of 2018, the school created a new endowment in support of teachers. The Growing Leaders Fund in honor of Katherine Dinh is a professional development endowment which ensures the school’s commitment to faculty/staff enrichment.

The school’s permanent endowment fund, including both endowments listed above, is currently $1,380,000.

Capital and Special Campaigns

At critical points in the growth and development of the school, the Head of School and the Board of Trustees will initiate a fundraising campaign necessary to strengthen our academic program and improve facilities. These projects fall outside of the operating budget and are investments in the future sustainability of Prospect Sierra. Capital and Special Campaigns help a school think big, and usually align with a strategic plan.
