3rd Grade — Music

Students learn to use their artistic vision, voices, and bodies with honest expression to tell stories and to 
convey emotions and ideas. Weekly visits to specialists’ classrooms encourage creative problem-solving and reinforce the importance of community. Topics correlate to grade-level curriculum. In addition to the integrated curriculum, holidays are celebrated through songs and dance.


  • Singing rounds and two parts in simple songs, interpreting symbols with the voice, beginning vocal improvisation, singing solos, chants, and raps


  • Beginning recorder, simple note reading, combining recorder with the other instruments, three and four part pieces in the xylophone ensemble, continuing playing and improvising in pentatonic scales, drumming


  • Dance choreography in small groups, folk and popular dance, creative interpretation, connection between movement and sound
