Students learn to use their artistic vision, voices, and bodies with honest expression to tell stories and to convey emotions and ideas. Weekly visits to specialists’ classrooms encourage creative problem-solving and reinforce the importance of community. Topics correlate to grade-level curriculum. In addition to the integrated curriculum, holidays are celebrated through songs and dance.
Vocal
- Chanting two or more parts at the same time in the group, singing from written symbols, singing instrumental parts
Instrumental
- Beginning rhythmic notation and following patterns, creating rhythms in drum circles, playing bass lines, ostinatos, and melodies on the xylophones, creating their own melodies, improvising using the pentatonic scale
Movement
- Dancing stories and ideas, dancing using group movement maps, beginning choreography in small groups, folk dance, popular dances, movement games
