Alumni Action Award
Reflecting the value our community places on encouraging young people to become agents of change in the world, each year Prospect Sierra celebrates several alumni who have made an impact in social or environmental justice with the Prospect Sierra Alumni Action Award.
The 2016 PSAAA overall winner is Dante Ryan (’12) for his impressive leadership in the face of challenging racial tensions at Berkeley High School. A biracial African-American and white student, Dante shared with the middle school assembly that at Prospect Sierra he developed a voice, and knew that he needed to use it. He spoke of the privilege of having a Prospect Sierra education, and being able to use it “for the greater good.”
This year’s college and beyond winner is Keilani Deal (’06). After having been homeless herself and therefore able to empathize deeply with homeless people in her community, Keilani created a project to build backpacks to hand out to homeless people, filled with essentials such as blankets, toiletries, waterproof materials, and even items for pets. Keilani had to fundraise for her project, and the Student Council was happy to donate part of their fundraising proceeds to her.
