A Special Visit by the Founders of Cafe Ohlone
Horše Túuxi (hello) is just one of the words that our 3rd graders learned from our special guests in science class this morning – Vincent Medina and Louis Trevino of Cafe Ohlone and @makamham.
Co-founders of Cafe Ohlone and the Ohlone Land Conservancy, they are also our new partners and we’re honored to work with them to lift up Ohlone voices and traditions, and ensure that Ohlone culture is an integral part of our school, from the curriculum to the stolen land we inhabit.
Future projects will include bringing land back to its original purposes, including Chochenyo names for our native plants, and building a partnership that allows our students to understand the importance of “ottoy,” or repair, as well as the joyful presence of Ohlone people in our immediate East Bay community.
A heartfelt thank you to Vincent and Louis for sharing your wisdom with us today!
