Many Ways to Support Tuition Assistance at Prospect Sierra…

  • Sign up for a committee. Working on Fire & Ice is a wonderful way to meet lots of other Prospect Sierra folks. Help with set-up, clean-up, decorations, sponsorships, check-out, bartending. . .you name it! Whatever your talents, there is a place for you.
  • Help underwrite the fun. If your time is tight but you want to help, gifts of cash to underwrite the event are greatly appreciated. Just mail a check to Prospect Sierra, memo “COTA,” or make your donation online.
  • Plan to attend! It’s really the best party in town and a great way to meet other Prospect Sierra families! Invite your grown-up friends and extended family, too. The big day is Saturday, March 20 from 7-11 pm at our middle school campus.

Kindergarten: Antique Silverware Chime
Each child in the Kindergarten classes strung beads (including silver alphabet beads that spelled her or his name) on wire with an antique piece of silverware. All 39 pieces hang from a silver platter to make a beautiful, colorful, and incredible sounding chime.

1st grade: Aquarium Hanging Quilt
We drew upon the expertise of a 1st grade parent, Lisa Steiner, to create a quilt depicting fish, seaweed, coral, rocks, and other beautiful and colorful objects that would be found in an aquarium. Each 1st grader drew a fish, chose and cut out pieces of fabric for the seaweed and other elements, painted the background fabric, and helped design the final layout.

2nd grade: Batik Tablecloth
2nd grade parent Sallie Bryan worked with the 2nd graders to create a beautiful tablecloth using the batik method (wax resist dying).

3rd grade: Printed Duvet Cover
The 3rd graders each drew a small design, inspired by South Asian Indian art, on a piece of styrofoam. These pieces were printed onto a sage green duvet cover to create a lovely, warm collage of images.

4th grade: Aluminum Squares Mirror
A favorite of COTAs past, the 4th graders created a colorful mirror frame, this year a larger rectangular shape, made from squares of aluminum cans. The result is always nothing short of stunning.

5th grade: Dragon Multi-Media Collage
Sallie Bryan again put forth her artistic efforts to create a collage made from color copies of 5th graders' fantastic dragon drawings.

6th grade: Fish Wall Hangings
A set of three, this project uses 6th graders' colorful drawings of fish layered in glass to create a hanging ocean scene.

7th grade: Ceramic Fountain
The 7th graders will be moulded and glazed an outdoor fountain from scratch.

8th grade: Abstract Lamps
A set of glass lamps decorated using the 8th graders' colorful abstracts painted to the sound of Jazz music.
