" We have so many dreams for new and better ways
to teach our students — things
we could not do before due to our space constraints. We could not create
really large pieces or use certain media; we didn't have the space
to display student work respectfully or store it safely. The new art
classroom has taken our teaching and learning to an entirely new level.

“ I wondered why we needed new buildings originally.
Now, seeing how excited our kids and teachers are with the new libraries
and other spaces, I think: we have to finish this job. Anything less
and we can’t
really claim the kind of quality we are so proud of. ”

The Campaign for Prospect Sierra School
For nearly 25 years, Prospect Sierra and its
parent schools have offered East Bay families an important option:
education that emphasizes the whole child; that integrates arts and other
enriching activities into the core curriculum; that prepares young people
to succeed in high school, college, and life.
As we approached our quarter-century mark, however, we had to face
a sobering fact: we were operating on campuses that no longer matched
the quality of the rest of our program. Our instructional spaces, in
some cases up to 50 years old, were outdated. Our libraries were cramped
and unable to support modern technology. We lacked the specialized facilities
needed to support first-rate science, art, physical education, and world
language instruction.
Through the careful use of bond financing, school reserves, and our first-ever capital campaign, To Build is To Believe, we have
created two learning-inspired
campuses, which fully support our unique educational program. The first phase of construction provided new library, music, art, and science classrooms at the Tapscott campus, which has made an incredible difference at the elementary school.
The Campaign for Prospect Sierra School, a $4 million fundraising
effort, has allowed us to complete the priorities identified in our overall
Campus Master Plan, providing drama, music, visual arts, and world
language classrooms at Avis. In particular, thank you to the generous alumni, parents, faculty, staff, grandparents, foundations, and friends of Prospect Sierra School for making the new Founders Center for the Arts at the middle school campus a reality. Through their generousity, we are able to give our talented middle school students and faculty
the designated spaces they deserve to teach, to learn, and to flourish.
