News and notes:

Today we got into working on our books for the first grade. I was excited to read the drafts. There are so many good ways of telling stories and our students seem to know all of them. The 6th grade visioning committee also presented the completed bill of rights to the 6th grade. Now we get to the hard work of figuring out what to do when rights are violated. We started the conversation today in Grokking Groups. It was definitely challenging, but we are up to the challenge.

News and notes:

The FARM TRIP was an amazing learning experience. We got to know each other in ways we never could at school. For instance, Caroline learned that both Jonathan and I do horrible British accents. I learned that most 6S students are fearless in the face of cold water. We all learned that chopping wood is back breaking work and plowing behind a horse is harder than it looks. As soon as I collect pictures from everyone who took them at the farm, I'll create a link to them on this blog. In the meantime enjoy this tidbit.

Farm Picture of the Day:

Joke of the Day:

New customer to Tech Support: “It says, hit any key and when I do that nothing happens'.
Tech Support: Can you try again and tell me what happens?
Customer: 'Tried but nothing”
Tech Support: “What key did you hit?
After a moment and some chick ling sound the customer replied: Well, first I tried my car key and just now my office key.

Upcoming Events:

10/9 and 10/10 - Fall Holiday
10/14 -10/17 - Live Power Farm Trip
Brad, Kelly, Elizabeth, Julie, Mike and Nancy are our chaperons! Thanks a million!

Homework:

I won't be posting homework until everyone gets in the habit of recording it on their own. Don't forget, you'll need to bring $20 to the farm for a t-shirt if you'd like to purchase one.

News and notes:

Today I gave the class a challenge. That is to top the other classes in how hard we work and how nice we are. The other classes will be tough acts to follow according Gloria.

We also celebrated our writing by drinking milk and eating cookies, reading each others work. 6Sers made some beautiful, loving comments to each other.

Joke of the Day:

A young polar bear asks his father, "Dad, am I 100% Polar Bear"
The father bear responds, "Well, son, I am all polar bear, your mother is all polar bear, your grandparents, even your great grandparents are 100% polar bear. So yes, son, you are 100% polar bear. Why do you ask?"
The young polar bear replies "Because I am really cold!"

News and notes:

Today we changed tables first thing. It was a little strange to be in these new groups since 6S students have been sitting with the same folks since the first day of school. I'm excited to see how our new groups will get along and work together.

I'm continuing the farm preparation. Tonight I will meet with the chaperons and tomorrow I'll talk to Gloria about our final preparations for the trip. We'll also be finding our our tent groups and making plans for what we'll do after all the hard work during the day.

Joke of the Day:

“How long have you been working here?” one employee asked to another.
“Ever since the boss threatened to fire me.”

Homework:

I won't be posting homework until everyone gets in the habit of recording it on their own. Don't forget to turn in your permission slips!! I also gave homework in writing.

News and notes:

Today we spent our period at the end of the day figuring out how to deposit our stuff in the room between classes without it looking like a whirlwind has swept through. We came up with a good solution, binders and planners on tables and other stuff underneath or in cubbies, and a good consequence, miss part of recess to straighten up. It was great consensus building work. Good job 6S.

Joke of the Day:

Q: Why did the man burn his jacket?
A: ‘Cause he wanted a blazer.’

The reply came back, “We are not that lonely.”
