6S, the end of 2006 approaches. One great thing I learned when I was leaving in Japan was to try to clear my debts before the new year. That way you can begin the year feeling free of obligations, and start things anew. I think it's important to end 2006 without work hanging over you, so that you can come back to school in 2007 feeling like it is really a new beginning. If you are still working on one of the 3 projects we've trying to finish up, use your time at home and at school to complete them.

FYI: I've posted the schedule of basketball games on our news board (so dubbed by Eden). I'm hoping to get to as many games as possible in January. I hope some of you will also be there to support your classmates.

Joke of the Day

Joke of the Day

A cat dies and goes to Heaven. God meets him at the gate and says, 'you have been a good cat all of these years. Anything you desire is yours, all you have to do is ask.'
The cats says, 'Well, I lived all my life with a poor family on a farm and had to sleep on hardwood floors.' God says, 'Say no more.' And instantly, a fluffy pillow appears. A few days later, 6 mice are killed in a tragic accident and they go to Heaven. God meets them at the gate with the same offer that He made the cat.
The mice said, 'All our lives we've had to run. Cats, dogs and even women with brooms have chased us. If we could only have a pair of roller skates, we wouldn't have to run anymore.' God says, 'Say no more.' And instantly, each mouse is fitted with a beautiful pair of tiny roller skates.
About a week later, God decides to check and see how the cat is doing. The cat is sound asleep on his new pillow. God gently wakes him and asks, 'How are you doing? Are you happy here?'
The cat yawns and stretches and says, 'Oh, I've never been happier in my life. And those Meals on Wheels you've been sending over are the best!

6S is making progress on completing some major assignments before the winter holiday. Everyone should complete their literature response to
Espernaza Rising by next Monday, and most everyone should be finished with their Ancient Civilizations project by Friday. We will also be putting the finishing touches on our Farmfolks book tomorrow. I'd really like to get everything finished this week, so that we can have some time before the holidays to enjoy each others' company and reflect on out first few months together. I hope that will happen.

A doctor and a dentist fell in love with a same girl. One day, the dentist had to go away for one week to work, so he gave the girl seven apples and asked her to eat one apple everyday.

I added a number of books to the library today including The Thief Lord and Tangerine. I'm excited about the additions and I hope that those of you haven't read these books will take advantage of their appearance in our library. Thursday is always a wonderfully productive day for us. We started writing about Esperanza and we are close to finishing Paul Fleischman's Seedfolks. It's been great inspiration to us as writers! We also started working on writing about history. 2006 will be ending with us getting a lot of new skills under our belts in preparation for the learning we'll be doing in the new year.

6S, it was great to be back. I had a great time at the conference - I learned a lot and met some wonderful people, including the cousin of my high school Japanese teacher! I'm glad that we got to talk about homework this morning. Cris told me that some of you told him about our conversation. That's great. It's better to speak up for yourself than to have people speak for you.

Joke of the Day

A family of skunks was trapped in a thicket, surrounded by a pack of hungry wolves that were edging even closer. The Mother skunk calmly instructed her young: "Quickly children, let's put our heads together!" After they obeyed, forming a circle, she continued, "Now—Let us spray!"
