Upcoming Middle School Math Competitions

Salesian High School in Richmond is hosting a math contest for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on the morning of Saturday, May 9. Students will have up to 75 minutes to complete 60 problems. Sample problems are available. All individuals are eligible for cash prizes given on their grade level. For more information, go to Salesian High School's website β€” www.salesian.com.

Apex College Prep will host a math tournament, where teams of students in grades 6–8 will compete face-to-face on Saturday, May 30 from 2:00–6:00 p.m. at The Dorris Eaton School in Walnut Creek. Each team is composed of any 5 students from the same school, and teams may have students from different grades. This tournament will consist of three rounds: an individual round, a team round, and a playoff round. The playoff round will only occur if a tie-breaker is needed. One team will be accepted from each school unless space allows more.

Calculators will not be permitted for either competition.

If you are interested, please contact Beth Alsberg. All 6th–8th graders are eligible, but priority will be given to those students who have participated in the school's Math Club. Registration deadlines are coming up, so please respond as soon as possible.
