Krya Baldwin '06 was selected as the winner for the East Bay Monthly's Seventh Annual Cover Contest. Krya says "Attending Prospect Sierra school before Berkeley High exposed me to a rich art curriculum." She explains that "she captured a look of sadness and perhaps detachment" in her oil pastel drawing of a boy in her art class.

Prospect
Sierra's art program encourages risk-taking and reinforces the importance
of community. The art room is a lively place, with a variety of projects
in progress by students in all grades.
The art room creates opportunities
for relationships and conversations among students, encouraging a community
of artists who exchange ideas and appreciate the creativity of others.
The artist-teachers are specialists who bring their specific art interests
to the program. They incorporate into the classroom current art exhibits
and highlight artists who are featured at local venues.
The
visual arts give students opportunities for self-discovery. Weekly art
instruction helps students recognize the importance of personal experiences,
respecting the originality in their own visual expressions and in the
artwork of others.
