Technology Overview

Technology is a tool for research and creativity. At Prospect Sierra we integrate specific computer skills into every area of the curriculum. The goal of the technology program is that all students will graduate with the skills and concepts they need to use technology comfortably and ethically in ongoing learning, both independently and as a member of a team. Responsible use of technology is guided by the provisions of our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The school's two libraries and computer labs are equipped with computers, printers, scanners, projectors, digital still and video cameras, and a wide variety of software. Our network connects both campuses and provides Internet access, file, print, and e-mail services in every classroom.

The Role of Technology at Prospect Sierra

As in the adult world, technology at Prospect Sierra has become more interwoven in daily activities. Planning for the role of technology in our students lives is paramount, even as we work to maintain smoothly running systems for the school. Our technology work is guided by more explicit goals as well.

Goals:

  • To make technology available for development and implementation in curriculum
  • To make technology available in all settings to all students, teachers, and staff
  • To support teachers in learning to use technology and adapting it both to their individual teaching and to the learning styles of their students
  • To graduate every student with the skills and concepts they need to use technology comfortably and ethically in on-going learning, both in- and outside the classroom, both independently and as a member of a team
  • To use technology to enable efficient and ongoing communication between staff, students, parents, alumni and the entire school community, including external communication with prospective families, job applicants, foundations, other schools through our website
  • To use technology to save time, resources and to increase productivity
  • To provide infrastructure, connectivity and hardware capable of effectively supporting the above goals
