Search Engines

Search engines pull web site results from across the Internet based on keyword searching. Results are not vetted by information professionals and need to be evaluated. Click "search tips" for each to get the most out of your search!

Clusty (search tips)
Recommended by Prospect Sierra Library and Technology staff for academic work. Best results are returned at the top. Clusters results by topic, search engine sources, and site domain name extensions. Includes an image search, news search, and U.S. Government search.

Ask.com (search tips)

Suggests broader, narrower, and related search terms. Includes an image search, video search, and news search.

Directories include only web sites that have been specially chosen and organized by category, and also include links to reference sources, maps, online newspapers, and more! You can browse sites by category or do a keyword search of the directory.

EBSCO Research Databases

Full text and citations for thousands of U.S. and international magazines, newspapers, and reference sources. Includes access to Primary Search, Middle Search Plus, Newspaper Source, Health Source, ERIC, Professional Development Collection, and an Image Collection, as well as NoveList book recommendation databases! From home, enter the user ID and password available from the library.

Grolier Online

Explore animals in the Amazing Animals of the World database, or look at news, special features, this day in history, atlases, and dictionaries! From home, use your PS community login.

 

Image Resources

EBSCO Image Collection
To search the Image Collection, select All Databases via EBSCOhost, Choose Select All, hit Continue, and then click Images at the very top of the screen. You'll then be searching a collection of over 100,000 credited images relating to people, natural science, places,
history, and flags. From home, log in with the User ID and password available from the library.
