About Prospect Sierra

Prospect Sierra School has been serving the educational needs of the East Bay for over 25 years. The school currently enrolls over 450 students on two well-equipped, and beautifully renovated campuses. The two-campus configuration provides the resources of a large school while maintaining the feel of a smaller one. The elementary school campus includes grades K-4 and the middle school campus, grades 5-8.

The school offers a sequential K-8 program, blending rigorous academics with an innovative curriculum. Students thrive in this supportive and challenging environment and bring their confidence as learners to their high school and college experiences.

Mission Statement

Prospect Sierra students are passionate about learning. Our exceptional teachers inspire students to seek deep, meaningful understanding; to develop strong academic skills; and to become creative and independent thinkers. Prospect Sierra cultivates compassion, fairness, respect, and individuality within a community that celebrates diversity, authenticity, and service.

Curriculum

The educational program at Prospect Sierra strongly emphasizes an integrated curriculum based on a framework of established themes. Mathematics, literature, writing, world language, art, music, science, social studies, drama, physical education, and computer technology are incorporated into a rich experience for each student. French and Spanish language instruction begins in the fifth grade. Mandarin instruction is offered to all students in the AfterSchool Enrichment Program.

The project-based curriculum is designed to promote understanding and thoughtfulness. Students are asked to think deeply and reflectively about facts, ideas, and experiences. They are encouraged to make connections between their learning at school and their growing awareness of the outside world.

Faculty

The teachers at Prospect Sierra come from outstanding public and independent schools across the country. They exemplify the passion for learning that is the essence of our community. These dedicated educators bring to their classrooms intelligence, a profound love of learning, and an appreciation of the diverse ways children acquire knowledge. Recruiting teachers of the highest caliber and supporting their continued professional development are two of the school's top priorities.

The words of one Prospect Sierra teacher exemplify the spirit of our faculty: “Every day I look forward to going to work because I am a teacher. I love what I do and enjoy the challenge every day brings.”

Extended Day Program

Supervision of the schoolyard begins at 8 a.m. on both campuses. Early moring care is available from 7:30–8:00 a.m. for grades K–4

After dismissal, students may join our AfterSchool program, available until 6 p.m. Students participate in outdoor sports and games, crafts, quiet activities, and a dedicated homework time. They can also enroll in AfterSchool enrichment classes such as Carpentry, Tennis, Jewelrymaking, Mandarin, Ceramics, Computers, Chess, African Dance, Hip-Hop, Music, Japanese, Science, Lego Engineering, Capoeira, Digital Filmmaking, and Car Design. An interscholastic sports program is open to students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

Student Services

Personal and academic counseling at Prospect Sierra is supported throughout the school by our teaching faculty, advisory program, six part-time credentialed Learning Specialists, a licensed Psychologist, and a High School Placement Advisor.

Governance

Prospect Sierra is a non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Trustees that establishes policies to ensure the school's progress and plan for its future, but assigns the day-to-day management to the Head of School.
