Letter from Board Chair, Donna Moriguchi Schneider
Welcome back to a brand new year at Prospect Sierra. We invite you to join our community as we celebrate this special landmark year. Leading the charge, our new Head of School, Katherine Dinh has seamlessly transitioned into Prospect Sierra and already has won our hearts with her impressive commitment to furthering child-centered education, her passion for the school’s community, and her infectious smile. The year commenced with our inaugural all-school Convocation. In September, we also took the time to honor the school’s pioneers with the festive opening of the Founders Center for the Arts, showcasing the success of our first-ever Capital Campaign. With great appreciation for those who have come before us and who have given so much to the school, we celebrate the 25th anniversaries of Prospect and Sierra, and the 10th anniversary of Prospect Sierra.
As we look ahead to this exciting year and the days to follow, we are clear that we are entering a new frontier in the world of independent school education. Always with an eye on upholding the mission of the school, the Board of Trustees insures the highest level of excellence of education in which our children are involved, while embracing the challenge of sustainability. Becoming certified as a Green Business, our nationally-known service learning program, and our authentic work in diversity and inclusion are a few of the many commitmentswe have nurtured and prioritized, which also further strengthens our position as a preeminent K–8 school.
It is with the deepest appreciation for their years of giving, of their time, talent, and treasure, that we thank our departing board members: Dan Babior (Rene 7) for his unparalleled knowledge of independent school operations and his gravitas, particularly around big-picture perspectives, which continually inspired us to be better trustees. Shannon Dubach (Charlotte 5, Serena 2) made her mark even before joining our board as co-chair of our current Strategic Plan and we thank her for her valuable insights.
Every individual at Prospect Sierra is essential in building the enduring fabric of our community. I encourage you to take your place and participate. As we reflect on our school community’s vibrant tapestry of unique textures and hues, to paraphrase, “There’s no place like Prospect Sierra.” Together with the members of the Board of Trustees, I wish you all an inspirational 2007–2008 year.
Donna Moriguchi Schneider, Chair, Board of Trustees
